Could We Manage Without Wine Glasses?

Written on April 11th, 2010 by blogno shouts

When I was a kid I was really astonished by the all those different types of glassware my parents use to keepJust for the wine there were different ones for red wine, another ones for white wine, the impressive champagne glasses, not to mention the ones for the spirits and the liqueurs. There was nothing more traumatic to remember as a child than watching my basketball falling over the glassware that was drying out after my parents had that big anniversary party. My reaction to that unfortunate event was always the same: had to take my ball, run as quickly as I could, find a safe place to hide it and then run back in the kitchen pretending I knew nothing about the whole incident.

I can still remember my dad’s voice coming out of the bedroom as a response to the glassware breaking noise, followed my mom’s more annoying one, due to the high pitch and tone of her voice that was really hurting my ears.Sometimes the punishment was severe as the party was going to take place in a just a few hours and it was already 7pm on a Saturday so all the shops were closed.Their punishment was always driving me mad as I couldn’t see the importance and the necessity of keeping so many different types of glasses all over the place, instead of having just a few ones. When I grown up a bit more and started drinking beer and spirits at my friends’ parties I started realising the reason why all those different types exist.

My dad told me off the other day as I insisted on having a proper wine glass in order to share with him that great homemade wine he had brought back from his holiday in France. Having the right glass is so important to me that the other day I denied having a glass of whisky at a friend’s place just because it wasn’t served in a proper whisky glass!I even believe that a real crystal glass makes even drinking water a much more enjoyable experience!I am entirely convinced that even water tastes better if served into a proper crystal glass!

Look For A New Pint Glass In The Your Local Pub

Written on March 29th, 2010 by blogno shouts

Pub as well as club all across the country could be seeing a new glass measure hit their shelves. Lets all say hello to the Schooner glass. The basic premise is that the glass is slightly smaller than a normal pint glass by only holding two thirds of a pint. The reason this new glass has appeared is because landlords want to be able to offer stronger cider and beer in smaller measures. Reports have also claimed that this beer glass will give females a chance to order a beer in a smaller measure as reports have suggested that women think the pint is too much.

The name Schooner is a nickname created when a pint becomes too hot when out in the sun in Australia. I dont quite see how it applies in colder countries however pub landlords are still taking it seriously. This new pint does have critics especially from traditional fields who feel the pint will have the spotlight taken from it. At the moment pubs are allowed to sell drinks in a pint, half pint and a third of a pint. The smaller glass will no doubt cause a huge amount of confusion for any pub’s glassware and the glass does nearly look identical to a pint glass so this will definitely cause confusion. However, many people are in favour of getting this new pint glass as the idea to drink less is always a preferred incentive. It is the same with wine glasses. In many pubs they will only sell a much larger size wine glasses in the bar and in their dinnerware.

The Scottish Drinking Association does agree with this stating that it thinks there is no demand for the glass. Science and Innovation Minister Lord Drayson said: ‘There is no question of replacing the British pint, but introducing the option of a brand new imperial measure is good for consumers and providing them with far more choice.

How To Make Your Wine Taste Even Better!

The type of glass you use to drink wine can make a real difference; large wine glasses can really make a cheap bottle of wine taste like an expensive bottle. There is no point trying other ways to enhance the flavour of your wine before you get the right glass as this is key to improving the taste.

When selecting a glass that you want to enhance flavour look for a glass which is large and round with a very wide rim. This helps add a psychological factor when people taste the wine making them think it is something special and adds the extra wow factor. This type of glass does have many benefits; it helps the smell of the wine to be released as well as aiding the flavour by the taste bursting in the mouth as soon as the wine is drunk.

To get the most out of your wine you can do other techniques to enhance the flavour, these include decanter the wine, warm the glass and add salty snacks.

Doing such a simple thing as using decanters can make a serious difference to the taste. It’s important to decant your bottle of wine a least two hours before you want to drink it and make your you leave it at room temperature.

Making sure your wine glasses are warm is often forgot about. It is important to have the glass the same temperature as your wine room temperature. If your glassware is cold you can warm it up by running it under a warm tap for a minute.

Salty snacks can add extra flavour to your wine if you eat them before. If you’re having a dinner party and serving wine with your food then salty snacks are perfect for a pre meal food and also preparing your taste buds for the wine.

You should try and incorporate these tips whenever you serve wine and they are not high resource ideas so can done easily.

The Importance Of The Right Glassware For Wine

Written on November 13th, 2009 by blogno shouts

The right glassware is an integral part of the wine appreciation. ts true that you can get wine in cans or cardboard cartons and perhaps there may come a time when we drink wine through straws. Hopefully that day is a very long way off, because that would ruin many excellent wines and put the corkscrew manufacturers out of business!

Good glassware (not necessarily expensive glasses) is central to the enjoyment of a good wine.In fact, very expensive glassware is often not a sensible choice as the designs tend to have long stems and a high centre of gravity. A glass filled with wine is inherently unstable and there cant be anyone who drinks wine who hasn’t tipped over the occasional glass during a conversation or meal.Wine glasses will break. Accept it and buy glasses that are fairly sturdy and reasonably priced.

A good wine glass is basically quite simple essentially it should really be made of glass. It should be perfectly clear with no tints or opaque colours because apart from just holding the wine, glassware should also display it. The true deep colour of a wine can be a beautiful sight in a clear, clean glass just as a range of bottles can be impressive in a well constructed wine rack.A glass should also enhance and preserve the wine’s bouquet. Good wine glasses, no matter what price, are narrower at the top than at the bottom to concentrate the aromas of the wine. Experienced wine drinkers swirl the wine in the glass to release more of its bouquet.

So if you plan to buy a wine gift this Christmas, any decent collection of glasses will do the trick. The only truly unacceptable wine glass is the saucer-like champagne glass – which is guaranteed to warm the wine and make it flat in record time. They are perfect for a shrimp cocktail starter, but otherwise for champagne and sparkling wines use a flute.
